Promutuel Insurance du Lac au Fleuve donates nearly $300,000 to local community organizations

Baie-Saint-Paul, November 27, 2024 – At the end of the 7th edition of the “In the Heart of Your Community” initiative, Promutuel Insurance du Lac au Fleuve is delighted to announce that it will donate nearly $300,000 to 67 community organizations to help them carry out projects that will benefit the communities in its territory.

“Our commitment to communities is at the heart of our mission. Together, we have the power to make a difference. Through the “In the Heart of Your Community” initiative, we support organizations that foster a strong and essential social fabric. We’re very proud to have the privilege of helping them carry out their inspiring projects,” said board chair Martine Thériault.

Regional Coup de cœur

A regional Coup de cœur component was added to the program to promote organizations within the community and provide them with extra support to carry out their projects. At the end of the jury’s deliberations, five projects per region were put to a public vote to determine a Coup de cœur in each of the competing regions. The five winners will receive an additional $5,000 to carry out their project.

For the Charlevoix region, the Triathlon scolaire de la Virée Nordique de Charlevoix project was chosen as the regional Coup de cœur. This friendly competition will host nearly 600 young people from Charlevoix in grades 4 to 11. Participants are invited to form teams to take part in relay skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing events. In addition to encouraging young people to practise their sport on a weekly basis in preparation for the event in February, this competition instills discipline, rigour, and perseverance in all participants.

In Côte-de-Beaupré,Diffusion culturelle SBDL took top honours for its project, Festival à deux têtes. This festive, cultural event, held in the Jacques-Cartier RCM, will host multidisciplinary artists in spectacular natural surroundings. In addition to giving the public a chance to make cultural discoveries, the festival will provide a unique opportunity for people to come together that will benefit the community and foster a sense of belonging.

For the Côte-Nord region, ESPACE Côte-Nord was named Coup de coeur for its project to translate the “Lire pour AGIR” comic book into the Innu language. This original comic book, composed of eight stories, will help prevent violence against First Nations children, which is not always possible with French-language tools because some communities do not speak French. Through the book, children will learn strategies for staying safe in their communities. The comic book is designed so that children who have trouble reading or don’t like reading can easily understand the strategies advocated by ESPACE Côte-Nord to prevent and deal with violence.

In Kamouraska, Ateliers Mon Choix was selected as the regional Coup de cœur. Its project targets students in the special education program (CAF) at Chanoine Beaudet secondary school. Because of their different diagnoses, it’s hard to find them internship environments where they can develop work-related skills. Using templates designed by Ateliers Mon Choix, they will learn to sort materials, including zippers and buttons. Students will be able to experiment with sequences of actions involving fine motor skills. The templates can be used for many years and will help many students living with disabilities to develop fine motor skills.

Lastly, in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, the organization Les Gratuivores du Saguenay took top honours with its Christmas basket project. Les Gratuivores du Saguenay, in collaboration with seven other local organizations, will provide 1,000 Christmas baskets to the less fortunate. This group of organizations, each of which will contribute according to its area of expertise, will maximize its efforts to avoid duplication of donations to clients. This means that 1,000 different families will be able to benefit from this precious gift, especially during the holiday season.

“Every year, we witness with admiration and gratitude the imagination and involvement of the organizations that work so hard across our territory. Considering that every dollar invested in our community is a step toward a brighter future, we can only be proud to support these organizations helping to make that brighter future a reality,” concluded Mutual general manager Pierre Raymond.
