Groupe Promutuel is born

The first Groupe Promutuel mutual insurance company was based on the values of cooperation and solidarity. It was founded in Huntingdon in 1852 by a group of farmers and prominent villagers who decided to unite to provide mutual coverage if any of them ever suffered a loss due to a fire. That’s how Beauharnois County Mutual Fire Insurance Company was born.
 

The birth of a federation

In order to standardize their operations, protect their interests in government matters, and extend their reach, a few mutual insurance companies decided to join forces within a federation. On April 18, 1956, the plan to create a federation became a reality.

Over the past 20 years, Promutuel Insurance has continued to grow, drawing on its mutualist approach, expertise in insurance, and a presence in all regions of Québec.
