Québec City, August 19, 2014 — Promutuel Assurance Rivière-du-Loup has paid the claims due under contracts for damages suffered in the major fire that devastated the Résidence du Havre de L’Isle-Verte on the night of January 22 to 23, 2014. Promutuel Rivière-du-Loup would also like to reassure the population following the information that has appeared in the media in the last few days.
“When a disaster occurs, our role as an insurer is to compensate our customers for damages suffered. Promutuel Assurance Rivière-du-Loup has fulfilled its obligations by paying the amounts provided in insurance contracts to the insured residents and owners of the Résidence du Havre de L’Isle-Verte,” said Mario Montminy, General Manager of Promutuel Assurance Rivière-du-Loup.
Filing of the application instituting proceedings
The filing of the application instituting proceedings against the municipality of L’Isle-Verte is a remedy available to Promutuel Assurance Rivière-du-Loup to protect its rights. When an insurer pays a benefit, it is current practice to claim a portion of what it has paid.
“The filing of the application instituting proceedings against the municipality is designed to protect our rights, while ensuring the defense of our insured-members. This step will also help to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this terrible incident,” added Mr. Montminy.
