Inauguration of the Haut St-Laurent Fire Academy
On Friday, November 22, an emotional groundbreaking ceremony took place for the inauguration of the Haut St-Laurent Fire Academy. Gerry, a young Hemmingford resident with incurable brain cancer, initiated the project. His dream was to become a firefighter, when he was approached by Make-A-Wish Canada. He wanted to bequeath the very first training centre to the region.
The project came together thanks to the generosity of several partners, including Promutuel Insurance du St-Laurent aux Appalaches. Gerry was still able to attend the centre's inauguration, on his 16th birthday, despite his critical state of health.
