Lambert Peat Moss fire

Promutuel Insurance du Lac au Fleuve would like to thank all the brave volunteers who fought the peat moss fire at Rivière-Ouelle.
Farmers from neighbouring communities arrived as reinforcements for firefighters, bringing tractors and tanks to put water down along the perimeter of the fire and stop it from spreading. It was a good thing the farmers were there because their tractors could reach areas the firefighters couldn’t easily get to. Other people helped with logistics (meals, accommodation, and so on) for the 200 firefighters and the several dozen volunteers who joined the effort.
A peat moss fire is hard to deal with. It burns deep in the ground, and putting it out takes more water than other types of fires. Luckily, an incredible team effort was underway in no time, with participants from municipal fire departments, SOPFEU, Ontario forest firefighters, and, of course, local farmers.
On Wednesday, July 1, Pierre Raymond, Jocelyn Benoit, and Pierre Garon (general manager and directors) were THERE to treat all the farmers who helped out to an ample boxed lunch.
